Alcohol
Alcohol is the most commonly abused drug in the UK. It is unique in the fact that it is volatile enough to be detected on expired breath. Alcohol use can be detected and recorded in a number of ways (including the detection of past regular use via hair analysis). The most common of these is via a “breath test”. In a similar way that the police may do a roadside breath test where they suspect “drink-driving”, we can perform an identical test on employees / persons.

A breath test is routinely performed alongside a drug test. There are a number of solutions to testing a breath sample for alcohol. Some qualify results only (e.g. crystals changing colour in a tube when a “positive” breath sample is provided) and some quantify results (e.g. the breathalyser unit shows a reading [usually in BrAC – Breath Alcohol Content]). ScreenSafe UK recommend that a quantifiable breath test is the best way to ascertain alcohol levels in a person’s system.

There are many models of breathalyser in the UK marketplace, but really it comes down to price versus quality. All our collection officers are issued with a Draeger 6510 system. We use these due to reliability, accuracy, durability and credibility (they are Home Office approved and are used by many Police forces and organisations worldwide). Whatever method or type you choose, we can provide the necessary training if you decide to do the testing yourself. At ScreenSafe UK we can provide any form of breath testing that you require, however, below are the two most popular devices that we provide:

Dräger 6510 – a medium priced, high quality professional evidential breathalyser system. Home office approved and used and trusted by professionals worldwide.
The Digital Alcometer - a low priced, low to medium quality device that is suitable for screening only.

Alcohol, for many people is a favourite means of escaping stress – for police and employers it is the cause of stressful situations. Situations where they can rely on the Dräger Alcotest 6510.

Although the number of accidents caused by drunk driving is decreasing from year to year, drivers under the influence of alcohol remain one of the greatest risks in road traffic. This also rings true of accidents and incidents in the workplace. The precise, quick and conclusive proof of alcohol is often the only and last possibility of eliminating risks, preventing danger and guaranteeing the greatest possible degree of safety of our roads and in our workplaces.

At the same time, breath-alcohol measurements on individuals are almost always performed under stressful conditions. In situations such as this an exceptional instrument is a must. Equipment which is easy to use with short reaction times. Equipment that delivers one hundred percent reliable data and at the same time offers the user the highest degree of safety. Equipment such as the newly developed Dräger Alcotest® 6510, that is based on decades of experience and the most modern technology.

The least that you should expect from every breath-alcohol test is an absolutely reliable measurement result. For the safety of both, the person performing the test, and the person being tested, any operator errors or long reaction times are virtually impossible when using the Dräger Alcotest 6510. After taking the sample, you get a conclusive and objective result, which gives you the basis for further actions. The Dräger Alcotest 6510 is equally simple to use for both right-handed and left-handed persons. Separating the holding area and the mouthpiece permits the breath test to be carried out hygienically, hence significantly reducing the risk of infection.

The Dräger Alcotest 6510 may give less pleasure to inebriated people. The design of the mouthpiece, the alcohol-specific sensor and the integrated control mechanisms prevent the deception and manipulation of the test result . If a test person attempts to knock the device out of your hand, they have little chance; firstly, it can be fixed to your wrist with a strap, and secondly it is extremely shock-resistant.

With the Dräger Alcotest 6510 you retain an overall picture at all times, even in critical situations. The device automatically stores the last ten tests. This memory function is a great advantage when pressed for time, or when sequential readings of a subject have to be compared for disciplinary measures. Should monitoring activities be interrupted, the optimized electronics and short paths utilized in the pneumatic/electronic combination result in very short READY times.

As previously mentioned, the Dräger Alcotest 6510 is always ready when you are.

The NEW One - with contemporary design, the most modern technology and numerous innovations, the Dräger Alcotest 6510 is ready for the changing of the guard.
